Injuries
Injuries of the Foot and Ankle: With 26 bones in each foot and hundreds of muscles, tendons, nerves and blood vessels, the foot and ankle are prone to many types of injury. Ankle sprains range from mild to severe. Although virtually any of the 26 bones are susceptible to fracture, the outside metatarsal bone is one of the more common fracture sites. Treatment and Prevention: If suspect a serious injury you should be seen by a health care professional or be seen at a local emergency room. Mild sprains and strains can be treated by ice, rest and elevation. Immobilizing the injured area with a splint or wrap can be helpful.
