Calluses
Are hard growths of skin that form on the bottom of the foot and around the heels. Calluses are due to excessive friction. Some of the more common causes of callus formation include wearing improper shoe, arch problems such as flat feet or an excessively high arch, arthritis and dry skin. Treatment Wearing sensible shoes is a key preventative measure. Non-medicated pads such as gel, foam or felt can relieve pressure. Orthotics/arch supports can redistribute the body’s weight and also prevent excessive motion in the foot, called pronation. Using a good moisturizing cream or lotion can prevent excessive dead skin build up.
